Une Lavandiere proved a popular winner at Listowel when taking the Kevin McManus Beginners Chase at odds of 11/4.

The joint favourite overcame a mistake at the last and dug deep on the run-in to score under Sean Flanagan.

Indeed the 2m6f event saw some erratic jumping from most of the eight runners, with Ballela Boy exiting at the first fence.

Red River God was beaten half a length in second, with long-time leader Hand Of The King the same distance further away in third.

Winning trainer Noel Meade said, “I’m delighted for Pat (O’Loughlin, owner) as he loves this place and has been coming here for more years than he’d admit to at this stage. He’s really enjoyed that win with all his friends here from Wexford, and I’m sure it will be well celebrated in Ballybunion tonight.

“She was a little bit lucky at the last but she’s game and stays well. She’s not the fastest in the world but the ground slows down the rest of them.

“She looks much better in herself today than before. We freshened her up for today and it’s worked out well. She will probably go for those mares’ chases.”
