The opening Ingard Point Maiden Hurdle at Wexford today went to the Paul Nolan trained Big Generator which made all to win under Campion Jockey-elect Davy Russell.
The son of Generous, a half brother to Aran Concerto, stayed on well in the straight to see off the challenge of Ontheground by a length and a half.
Afterwards James Nolan, brother and assistant to the winning trainer, said “Big Generator had good bumper form - he was second to Monksland up north and he also ran well at Leopardstown. He was also unlucky not to win his point to point.
“He raced too keen and didn't jump well enough at Naas over hurdles but it was my fault for running him over three miles. We knew he'd be better on better ground, being by Generous, and he might go straight for a beginners' chase next as he jumps so well.”
The win was Russell's 101st winner of the season, 19 winners clear of Ruby Walsh at the head of the Jockeys' Championship, with just one wee remaining.
