Wednesday claims chase win in style
Rocky Wednesday was left to come home a facile winner of the Rodney Watson Memorial Beginners Chase at Down Royal this afternoon. Wed 11th Feb
He was entitled to do it. He's probably a better chaser. He's very slick and clever and reverts back to hurdles well,” . I thought about the Daily Mirror Chase but he was 6lbs wrong (with Fine Rightly). He'll go to Punchestown for a novice handicap chase. I did think about Cheltenham but the English handicapper ran him off 136 in Musselburgh and I didn't want him running off big weights so maybe next year.
Karl Thornton
He done it well and he seems to be improving all the time. In Musselburgh he just got gee'd up and it was just one of those things,. Jumping is his biggest asset and when we school him at home nothing can jump with him. He's put horses on the ground. He had to improve after winning his three races as the handicapper put him up plenty but we thought he had coming up to Christmas. Going to Musselburgh I thought he was a certainty. I had looked at the handicap chase at Cheltenham on the Tuesday but he's not a horse that would carry a lot of weights and he'd nearly be top weight in that. We'll look at Fairyhouse and Punchestown with him and try to get into a better race with a light weight.
Karl Thornton
He likes that ground. I was worried in Killarney that it was too quick for him. But that kind of ground is fine - once it's not heavy. I'm hoping he might sneak into the bottom of a good race. He could step up to three miles and I had the Paddy Power in my head.
Karl Thornton
he (Colms Dream) seems to have come on from his last run and is still only six. A light weight is a big thing for him and he could go to Down Royal next for a 0-123 handicap. There's also a 2m6f handicap hurdle at Down Royal that he could run in and he'll probably get a break after that.
Karl Thornton
His last run seemed to be good enough, and he was entitled to win. Johnny was superb on him, and he looked like a professional. He'll probably go to Down Royal next Friday for a similar handicap, and have a break after that.
Karl Thornton
He was weighted to do it. In Leicester he was never going, he has had issues with his back and may have tweaked it. He's genuine and we'll keep him over hurdles until May. He's owned by the Colm's Dream Syndicate who are from Lusk and Skerries.
Karl Thornton
