Shu Lewis provided an upset in the Punchestown bumper when coming from last to first to win going away by two-and-a-half lengths for Newbridge trainer Monica Dowdall Blake. Sat 07th May
It hasn't been easy with him. He looked a very promising horse when he won his novice at Punchestown but it just didn't work out for him over fences,. Last year he looked like a real World Hurdle horse but then chipped his knee here in December. Gerry Kelly (vet), Michael & Eddie O'Leary have done a great job getting him back. He's had a great year and we'll lock him up now for next year and take it from there. That's Carberry. He sits up and lets them do the work. Luckily when he gave him a squeeze the answer was there.
A J Martin
He jumped well coming back to this trip. He always had the pace and the ground helped his stamina come into play.
A J Martin
he cracked a knee at Fairyhouse in the Hatton's Grace (2013) and was out for a year. He ran well at Christmas, and that brought him on enough and he was able to do himself justice today. He'll get an easy week after this and we'll see how he is in a fortnight's time and take it from there. He'd only run at Cheltenham if the ground was soft.
A J Martin
That's his ground, he needs soft ground. Any better and it's pointless running him. He won well last year in his first race then lost his confidence in the big novice chase at Leopardstown [Grade 1 Topaz on December 28]. He leaped brilliantly today.
A J Martin
He was a bit extravagant. His jumping was a bit big. He let fly at a few down the back, but I'm hoping that was freshness. We will take our time with him, and I'll have a chat with Andy and Stevie (the owners). He is entered in everything but I will give it two or three weeks and decide where next.
A J Martin
He was unlucky at Leopardstown as he missed the second fence and he lost his confidence. The whole way down the back he was bad and if we had the time again he should have been pulled up. He went to Navan then but he hadn't got over Leopardstown. We schooled him plenty since Navan and it worked out well today. All I wanted was him to come here today and to do what he did. He likes that ground and he is ground dependant. We will leave it a week or two now and see how the ground goes. He might surprise us on good ground and we might have to try him on it in Punchestown or Fairyhouse.
A J Martin
hopefully Dedigout goes the right way now and we'll see how he comes out of this. He had experience from point to pointing and we had schooling around the track. It went well and I was happy with his jumping. The first lad (Beaverstown, early leader) took him along but he fell throught tiredness . they went plenty fast enough on that ground. We'll take it one step at a time with him but hopefully he'll be a good horse . we'll look for something in three or four weeks time and the Drinmore Chase looks the obvious one for him or else we could go for a winners' of one. He bends his knee well and goes well on that winter ground.
A J Martin
I had intended to run him in the three-mile race but the two bosses (Michael and Eddie O'Leary) thought it would be better to run in this,. He missed every hurdle at Naas but things worked out today. He jumps his hurdles big and safe and looks a nice prospect for chasing. He should develop into a nice staying chaser. That's his ground and he was always going to stay - he outstayed them. On quicker ground the likes of those horses get away from him. He's an old fashioned horse and is so laid back.
A J Martin
Dedigout is a nice horse who likes winter ground and stays well. I think he'll make a lovely chaser this time next year.
A J Martin
We will try and find a winners of one for him now over two and a half miles plus. The one thing he does is stay and he'll probably make a nice staying chaser in time.
A J Martin
