It is lovely to see the horse back on the racetrack and he had plenty of enthusiasm and jumped and travelled very very well. It's a great starting point for him and his jumping was very very good today and he never missed a beat the whole way around,. Today's trip wasn't a problem for him and ideally going a little bit quicker early doors would have suited him but he is nice and fresh and it was good to see a performance like that, this early in the year. It was mission accomplished today.
W P Mullins
Going past the stands the first time, the horse was off the bridle and looking at the big screens - when he made that bad mistake, I thought it was over. He was off the bridle the whole way down the back, but Ruby just sat and sat and knew the ones in front were going too fast. We know he stays. It's a surprise to us that he's able to win an Arkle. We had him down as our two-and-a-half-mile horse for this year, JLT or possibly RSA, but then when he came out and did what he did in his first two races we said we were in the wrong division and should go back for the Arkle, and he's done that now. I doubt I've had one improve so much from hurdles to fences. His jumping has just brought him up another gear. He could be a Gold Cup horse. Lots of Gold Cup horses have won the Arkle and this fellow is much more laid back than some. I think we will have a good chat with connections and see if they would like to go in that direction. He has plenty of stamina.
W P Mullins
He did it the hard way and jumped well in front. I think he pecked a bit at the last but it was a very good performance. We didn’t set out to make it but Paul wasn’t happy that there was enough pace so he went on. We are heading for the Arkle unless something else changes. He was fourth in a Champion Hurdle but we thought he would be going two and a half miles or more over fences. The first day he jumped he was very good and when you can jump you can go any trip. Demi Sang made a hash of the first fence and lost his confidence a bit so David tried to get him back jumping and he did. It would be hard to see him competing at Grade 1 level over two miles so he’ll probably have to drop down a Grade or go out in trip. I would prefer to go out in trip but we’ll have a word with Frank (Berry) and JP (McManus) and see what they want to do.
W P Mullins
He's electric. From the first day at home that I saw him jumping over fences I thought he was the best I've seen for a long while. He was good on his debut at Navan but today he was just awesome. He gained lengths at his fences and he's one to really look forward to. I'd imagine he'd come back here for a similar type of race at the new Dublin Festival of Racing (Leopardstown, February 3-4) and then, hopefully fingers crossed and everything stays right, on to Cheltenham.
W P Mullins
it was a good performance; he is a very natural jumper at home and he did the same here. He's as good as novice as I've seen schooling at home and I thought it was a good performance for a first time out novice. I'd imagine we'll look at the Drinmore; the way he was going there I'd be happy to stick at two miles but the Drinmore is two-and-a-half so we'll look at that. He has no problem going two-and-a-half as he was a two-and-a-half mile hurdler. He is so well balanced jumping and is a complete natural.
W P Mullins
Danny took matters into his own hands. He felt they were going quick enough, and got him settled in behind and jumping. He jumped too big at Christmas, and the hood was a help. Let's Dance was staying on again at the finish and would have been second in another few yards. She did all the hard work, and will learn a lot from that. Allblak Des Places also ran a cracker, and I'd imagine all three will go for the Triumph.
W P Mullins
He did what he had to do and jumped a little sharper than at Leopardstown. He'll run next in the Grade 1 at Leopardstown (February 6),. He didn't race properly last time but I definitely think he is still a Triumph Hurdle horse. We'll see what he does the next day.
W P Mullins
He looked a nice horse in France on his last run and has probably done that way better than I thought he could do,. I haven't been very hard on him since I got him and he's not in very long so hopefully there is plenty of improvement. He's a horse that could go anywhere. I have half a dozen three-year-old hurdlers in at the moment.
