On The Go Again justifies Mulvany belief
On The Go Again got his hurdling career off to the best possible start when upsetting the odds-on Icario in the Racing 19th March Maiden Hurdle at Navan. Sat 04th Mar
Gary said they didn’t go that fast early on and he hit a bit of a flat spot in the straight but when he hit the rising ground he was away. He’s after having a hard start to the season so he’ll go on his holidays now and hopefully come back for the Galway Hurdle. That’s the big plan, and he might have a prep run somewhere. We like winning at Bellewstown so maybe we could go there. That’s my first Listed winner but I’ve never had a horse like that before. Tough As Nails was a great horse but this horse is so versatile, tough and honest, and he always gives his all.
Michael Mulvany
He gets two mile (over hurdles) on goodish ground but just about on heavy ground and he has always shown plenty of speed,. I said to Gary 'what do you think about the Lincoln' and he said 'I'd love to ride him in it.'. Then I had a work with Mark Bird (handicapper) and he said to me that he was one of the horses that he thought could win the Lincoln. We changed plans and kept him away from Cheltenham. We were ready for this race and I haven't even thought where we go after this but looking at that we'd probably have to go up into a Group race. The long range plan is that I'd like to go to the Galway Hurdle. He'll probably get a few spins on the Flat and then we might give him a little break around May all going well. We were second in a Group 2 before but that's the best race we've ever won.
Michael Mulvany
He is officially going on his holidays today!.
Michael Mulvany
This was the plan from early in the year and we were saving his handicap mark. His runs on the Flat recently would have helped fitness-wise and he is fierce genuine,. The handicapper might now give him a few pounds but we're not worried and it's a lovely race to win. He's after having a long season and we'll see how he is after this. Ross is my nephew so it's a real family affair today!
Michael Mulvany
As I said the other night the Lartigue Hurdle has been the plan for a while but it's nice to pick up those Flat races along the way. I just let him out in the paddock yesterday morning and he was in such good form bucking and squealing I said it didn't take that much out of you and let him take his chance again. He's a good honest genuine horse and hopefully he'll keep sound. The ground doesn't make any difference to him as he's won on good ground and heavy.
Michael Mulvany
the Lartigue Hurdle in Listowel has been the long term plan, and to keep him on the Flat until then. Hopefully he won’t get too high a mark for the Lartigue, and I think he’d have a chance.
Michael Mulvany
we were toying all week with whether we'd go to the mile-and-a-half race or this one and I just decided to keep away from Aidan O'Brien (who had entered, and runs, Air Supremacy)!. I wasn't worried about his speed for this trip as he has plenty of pace and we'll probably go to Galway now for a handicap. The long-term plan is the Lartigue Hurdle at Listowel and you won't see him over hurdles till then - we’ll tick along on the Flat. He handles all types of ground, is a nice classy kind of a horse and is a lovely big horse. I think we won't see the best of him until he starts jumping fences - he’s practically 17 hands.
Michael Mulvany
I made a statement earlier on in the year and said I thought this was the best horse I've ever had. Rachael said he hated the ground. I entered him last time in the Grade 1 at Leopardstown and they all thought I was cracked!. You haven't seen the best of him yet. He's a big 17 hands horse and he has a real turn of pace when you see him on good ground. We don't know where we are going now and as I said we probably spoiled his novice year. He's so well related. His mother is a three-parts sister to Voler La Vedette, and his grand-dam was Bolino Star so he's bred for this game. The only reason he ran on the Flat was because he was so hard to break and we decided we'd keep him going once we had him broke. We'll take our time now and pick a nice race. He was just grinding it out there today but he is a really nice horse. I worked him the other day with a 90-rated Flat horse and he made him look like a bad horse. All along I've been saying this is the real machine.
Michael Mulvany
