Willie Mullins completed a treble as Blackstairmountain won the Matinstown Flat Race under Patrick, joining stable companions, Palace Merano and Templers Hall as scorers on this seven race programme for the Closutton outfit. Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh put the early defeat of Tawaagg firmly behind them when Templers Hall followed up the earlier success of Palace Merano, in the Horse And Jockey Handicap Chase. The bay was looking likely to get the better of Buckland Gold (front runner had been reeled in) when that fellow pecked and unseated Denis Hogan at the last. Thu 12th Feb

I'm delighted. We came here more in hope than expectation with him,. Maybe it's the ground that's turned him inside out. I thought the two of them (Pomme Tiepy finished 4th) wanted soft ground but maybe they are fed up with it soft and appreciate a bit better ground at this stage of their careers. That saved the both of them from the sales and we'll continue to race both if we can find races long enough.

I'll keep him for Punchestown. He'll run on the flat in the summer and Galway and Listowel could also be on his agenda. He'd win a mile and six maiden on the flat any day of the week and he'd appreciate better ground too. (EM)

This horse had been crying out for a trip. He is all stamina and he'll be going over three miles before long. He could even go over fences by the end of the season and he is a half-brother to that good horse of Paul Nicholls' Napolitain. (EM)
