Mimosa looks smart as Weld doubles up
Dermot Weld feels Pale Mimosa is a filly with a bright future after she got off the mark in the mile-and-a-half maiden at Galway this evening. Fri 03rd Aug
It was an excellent performance by her. She looked a little too well I thought. She was ten kilos up on her ideal racing weight. She holds the track record here over a mile and six when she beat Missunited in the Saval Beg last year. She did what we expected and she is a very, very high class race mare. I walked the track before racing and I was happy that it was safe. It was fast ground but safe. She is in the Ebor, she is one of the highest rated in it, and she also has an entry in the Lonsdale at York. She'll run in one or the other and she won the Galtres there two years ago.

It was a very pleasing introductory run. She has been slow coming into her coat so we took our time with her. She real only came into it in the last ten days and considering that I thought it was a very good performance. Pat said it was a very true run race and the second is very consistent. She is entered in the Gold Cup (at Royal Ascot) but obviously she is in the same ownership as Rite Of Passage. He is in very good form and he will run in it unless the ground comes up firm, in which case she will run in it. One concern I had coming here today was ring rust and her fitness might get found out. We will look at all the nice staying fillies races across Europe for her now and we might travel with her. The Lillie Langtry and the Parkhill are possibilities.

She's a lovely mare. I've been waiting all year for a nice bit of ground with her!. She's a big staying mare and loves to gallop. She'll appreciate much better ground as she's a good mover. It shows that if they're good enough they'll win on anything. My only concern was the testing conditions. It probably wasn't the strongest contest but all she can do is win. There is lots to look forward to and she'll probably go to the Galtres Stakes at York next.
