Smoky Cloud beats punters
Willie McCreery's Smoky Cloud belied uninspiring '000' form figure to make a winning handicap debut, at 20/1, in the HRI Pensioners Nursery at Leopardstown today. Mon 26th Oct
On his Laytown run (won a six furlong handicap) he had every chance. You could discount his last run at Listowel (sixth in an extended six furlong handicap) as the ground was too heavy for him and he struggled on it. He liked the quick ground here today and got a great start on the rail.
K J Condon
Danny was very strong on him and he needed that. He won off 62 (in a nursery at Leopardstown in October 2009 when with Willie McCreery) and he was running off 67 today and he'd been showing glimpses of coming back to form. We only had our first runners here last year and fourth was as close as we came. I'm delighted to get the win as it is a unique and historic days racing. The horse took to the place well.
K J Condon
Smoky Cloud had been running on bad ground todate and her previous rider Bill Lee was right in thinking he was more of a seven furlong horse than a miler.
