Harry Fry is preparing a small but select team for the upcoming Punchestown Festival.
The Dorset-based trainer is considering the BoyleSports Champion Chase for the JP McManus-owned Hell’s Kitchen, who has finished fourth in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham and fourth in the Melling Chase at Aintree on his last two starts.
Stable stalwart Unowhatimeanharry is set to line up in the Ladbrokes Champion Stayers Hurdle — a race he won two years ago — while Minella Awards has the Dooley Insurance Group Champion Novice Chase as a likely target.
Speaking in his Betway blog, Fry said: “Entries close on Wednesday for the Punchestown handicaps and it’s shaping up as though we may be taking half a dozen horses over there.
“The ground at Haydock will be too quick for Captain Drake to take his chance there this Saturday, so he has the option of going over to Punchestown for one of those handicaps, while the likes of Hell’s Kitchen, Minella Awards and Unowhatimeanharry could all take up their places in Grade One contests across the week.
“Just A Sting is another that we may run in the handicap at Punchestown. He was entered for the Irish National at Fairyhouse, but it doesn’t look like he’ll get in, and the three-mile-six-furlong handicap chase at Punchestown that we won with Fletchers Flyer a few years ago is a possibility.”
