Abbeyglen pulled away in the closing stages to run out an impressive winner of the Goffs Defender Bumper for trainer Martin Brassil.

The No Risk At All gelding cost €160,000 at last year’s Arkle Sale and went to post an 11/2 shot in the two-miler.

John Gleeson came to challenge turning for home on the four-year-old and he asserted inside the final furlong to record a five-and-a-half length success over Altesse Du Luy

The winner, who had originally been called Historisk when sold at the sales, is a half-brother to Grade 2 Kingwell Hurdle winner Grand Sancy.

"It was just lovely to get him here today and everything worked out,” said Brassil.

“We were minding him as he is a big leggy horse and he fulfilled what we were hoping. He shows a bit at home and we were happy to let him take his chance.

"He will get a break now as we want to let him mature a bit so he can withstand the rigours of jumping. He is a very exciting horse with a lovely pedigree."

Regarding stablemate and veteran top chaser Fastorslow, Brassil added:- "He is on the easy list still but hopefully we'll see him in the autumn/winter. He will come back into training around the usual time, at around July or August."
