Berry hoping Waaheb can strike for JP

Waaheb puts his unbeaten record on the line as he steps up to Grade One company in Wednesday's betchronicle.com Champion INH Flat Race at Punchestown.

The four-year-old did not run on the Flat but after changing hands for 15,000 guineas at Tattersalls last July, he surfaced in a Leopardstown bumper in January.

Dermot Weld's charge won that race and another start at the same venue in a canter before making a successful leap to Listed company when breezing home again at Limerick earlier this month.

Owner JP McManus subsequently purchased Waaheb from Weld's son, Kris, and connections are hoping he can make a perfect start in the famous green, white and gold colours.

"He looks to be a very nice horse and Dermot seems to be very happy with him," said Frank Berry, McManus' racing manager.

"He's done nothing wrong in three starts so far and we'd be hoping for a good run from him.

"When he won at Christmas, he looked a nice horse and he won well last time before we bought him, so hopefully he can be lucky for us in the future."

Willie Mullins has three contenders in Lovethehigherlaw, Tusa Eire and Ceol Rua, while Jessica Harrington is double-handed with Fionn Tra and Jenari.

Nigel Twiston-Davies provides the only British-trained raider with Cheltenham bumper fourth Go All The Way.
