FormscanBy Gary Carson - Willie Mullins has a terrific record in this in recent years and Melon appears to be the big hope this season. He won nicely on his sole start for the yard at Leopardstown but the race didn't amount to much and he is still a relatively unknown quantity. He'll need to be the machine that his reputation suggests to win this on only his second hurdles outing. Preference is for his stable-mate BUNK OFF EARLY. He went into many notebooks for this race when finishing second in Grade One company at the Irish Gold Cup meeting last month. He travelled really well to take it up in the Deloitte over 2m2f before being outstayed on the run-in by Bacardys. That was only his second outing over timber but he would have more experience than Melon on the level. Nevertheless Mullins expected significant improvement from his charge with the experience of jumping at Grade 1 speed under his belt. With Moon Racer switching to the Champion Hurdle the English challenge looks to be headed by Ballyandy. He won the Champion bumper here last year but that form has taken a few knocks since and he needs to improve on what he has shown over timber this term.
