FormscanBy Gary Carson - VROUM VROUM MAG went from strength to strength when switched back to hurdles last season and stamped herself as a mare of the very highest order when ending her season with a convincing victory in the Punchestown Champion Hurdle. It’s hard to argue with the form of that, when she accounted for two top-class rivals in Identity Thief and My Tent Or Yours. Up until then she had been imperious in mares races but that win marked her out as top level in any company. She’s obviously the one to beat here and it might be another mare that gives her most to do. Connections were left disappointed by the comeback effort of Apple’s Jade at Down Royal but she showed significant improvement when agonisingly just failing to peg back Irving in the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle last week. If that run hasn’t left too much of a mark she’s a big danger, particularly as she has the benefit of a couple of runs. Shaneshill, stable-mate of the selection, is a smart sort on his day but he would need to step up on his seasonal debut when he was third to Snow Falcon at Navan. The seven-year-old showed top level form when runner-up in the RSA Chase last season and also chasing home Thistlecrack at Aintree. He is actually top-rated in the field off 156 and has to be respected with that run under his belt now.
