FormscanBy Tom Weekes - There is one glaringly obvious piece of form worthy of Royal Ascot here as BIRDS OF PREY, second to subsequent Derby winner Wings Of Eagles at Killarney last August, makes his reappearance. In truth, Wings Of Eagles improved dramatically to gain his famous Epsom win but the Killarney form is strong regardless of Wings Of Eagles, with the third (useful Hailstone), fourth and fifth placed horses each winning races subsequently and adding further weight to the race. BIRDS OF PREY is probably no star and has clearly had a setback along the way since then but should prove good enough to win this sort of maiden. Cool Colonnade himself made a fine start to his career when staying on nicely for fourth at Fairyhouse over 6f. He looks likely to appreciate the extra distance here and holds strong claims if the selection fails to fire. Tenth Amendment, behind Cool Colonnade latest, is another useful type and may himself be better suited to returning to seven furlongs today. Today’s rider takes off a useful 5lbs and he should get involved at the business end. Pure Action is absent since running well at Dundalk in Ferbuary and will probably improve for this reappearance run, with the drop back to 7f another concern.
