FormscanBy Tom Weekes - Many will see FOOTPAD as their Festival banker and he could be the solution here in a small but quality field. He has taken extraordinarily well to fences since being sent chasing this term and while he was a lesser hurdler than Petit Mouchoir (who beat his three times over hurdles), his near foot-perfect jumping is a huge asset and he can confirm Irish Arkle form and win today. Petit Mouchoir was 5L second to FOOTPAD in that Irish Arkle but did make an early blunder on what was his return following a layoff. It is very possible Petit Mouchoir will improve further from that run but any blunder or error today could prove costly in a race of this nature. Saint Calvados is a bold front-runner who has shown some very smart form this year and is another with claims. His runaway winning chase form looks strong but he has yet to race at this type of level and despite being rated all of 160, it is debatable whether or not he had or has the engine to finish third (Petit Mouchoir) or fourth (FOOTPAD) in a Champion Hurdle. Brain Power has failed to complete his has two starts and while he could never be expected to beat his Ascot rival Un De Sceau, he had previously made hard work of attempting to win a Grade 1 at Sandown in December and might struggle to win today.
For novice 5-y-o & upwards rated 120 or more. Horses who are not qualified for a rating in Great Britain, Ireland or France may also be entered. Such horses may be eligible providing the Handicapper is satisfied that the horse's racecourse performances up to and including the day prior to confirmation would merit a minimum rating of 120.
