FormscanBy Eamonn Murphy - For quite a while now, STONE HARD has been in my 'portfolio' for the week, and I'm happy enough to still be in his camp at attractive odds. It looks as if he's been swerved by one or two of his prospective riders, but such a scenario hasn't always been a negative in this race in the past. In a shift in policy, Gigginstown House Stud are now allowing some of their youngsters to contest what has traditionally been a hard-fought event. Gigginstown's Eddie O'Leary recently cited Samain and Lovethehigherlaw, as examples of horses they've had in the past, that didn't come here, but yet ultimately never got the chance to fulfill their potential. O'Leary also said that their representatives now, Stone Hard, and General Principle, have the advantage of a bit of age on their side, as a five and six-year-old respectively. Personally, as a follower of the point-to-point scene, I have a particular liking for the well-related Stone Hard, unbeaten after a start 'between the flags,' and in two bumpers. You need to stay well to land this prize, and Stone Hard also has the right attitude to make him stand-out each-way contender at double-figure odds.
