Cheltenham Wed, 13th Mar, 2024 Captain Guinness Obviously after El Fabiolo went you knew then that the race had opened right up and we felt we had a right chance then. Can mistakes happen more at the speed they go in this race, I don’t know. He had his thing at Christmas (fibrillating heart) and I just kept thinking the horse deserved to get his Grade One so much, to get this one is amazing. Everyone at home has done a fantastic job and the vets. The tests he went through after Christmas, his heart specialist was happy and the IHRB (Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board) was happy and everyone was. In fairness to Sam who looks after him, he hadn’t known him in such form. We took a view from Leopardstown in February we just wouldn’t train him hard and keep him fresh and happy and that’s what we did. We just wanted him really bullish and he’s been trying to buck Sam off for the last two weeks, so I’m not sure he was as happy with the plan as I was, but it’s worked out for us all now. |
Cheltenham Tue, 12th Mar, 2024 Slade Steel I’m delighted with him, Rachael gave him a super ride and fair play to the Robcour team – they said Ballyburn has beaten us twice and we need to just avoid him, so that’s what we did and it’s worked out really well for us,. It’s lovely to see young horses like him coming through, we’re very fortunate the support we get from everyone and thankfully we get the odd result. Cheltenham is an amazing, special place. We’ve had a lot of luck here and it’s a cliche, but it’s our Olympics and we’re lucky to be able to take part. You definitely breathe a sigh of relief (after having a winner). We’ve never won the Supreme before so I don’t know this feeling, but it’s good. When you’ve had one winner you want two, but we’re delighted to get one. He was one of our big hopes coming here and it’s great for the team. |
Fairyhouse Sat, 24th Feb, 2024 Theatre Native I'm delighted with that. She ran very keen there all the way and, when she learns to settle, obviously that will help her again. It was lovely to see her behave like she did and still finish out the race as well as she did. |
Punchestown Wed, 21st Feb, 2024 Hispanic Moon she's beaten Saylavee a lot easier today than she did here back in November and hopefully there is a bit more in the locker. She's in the Mares Hurdle at Cheltenham and we'll see how she comes out of this but we might take a punt. You'd have to be tempted. she was impressive here back in November and I don't know what went wrong during Christmas, there was no real excuse for her and she just didn't run her race for some reason. That was much more like it today and Darragh knew himself after jumping two hurdles that she was back to herself. She was a different mare, travelled and jumped really well. She winged the last and went from there to the winning post with her two ears pricked. |
Punchestown Sun, 18th Feb, 2024 Senior Chief Rachael said once she turned in she knew it was okay, but I’m not so sure. He’s done little wrong in fairness to him, and the handicapper might reassess him from a mark of 142. He looked laboured and Rachael said its tough old ground. We’ll look for a handicap now and see where we go from there. I’m delighted for the lads (Lucky In Life Syndicate) who are great supporters and a lot of them work at Regeneron in Limerick. |
