Mountain Heather has thrived at courses with uphill finishes to date (has a win at Tramore and two in Downpatrick) but Mallow's flat track proved no problem to the daughter of Luso as she landed the opening Newmarket Novice Handicap Hurdle under Paddy Kennedy. Sun 12th Dec

Michael Hogan brought his gelding Mountain Heather up from Toomevara in Tipperary to land the two mile two furlong handicap hurdle under Andrew McNamara who made all to win by five-and-a-half lengths from Ringfort. Mon 30th Aug

She'd have won further with a hill finish! She'll run again at Christmas, possibly back over fences then. We'll see what the handicapper does with her over hurdles now, if he's not too hard on her she could stay over them at Limerick at Christmas.

She had a setback last year with different injuries, but we fancied her today. She needs good to firm ground. I'll look to win another hurdle with her but then she should go chasing around Christmas.

This mare used to stay in season but we got her right for today. If the ground hardens up we will go for a winner's bumper as she wants the fast ground. She will make a nice chaser in time.
