Acapulco has his connections smiling

An Epsom Derby and a Doncaster Leger 'also-ran' back in 2007, Edward O'Grady's Acapulco showed a glimmer of that class when landing the UCC Horse Racing Society Handicap Hurdle under Barry Geraghty at Cork.

The Killarney Road, Mallow venue was also the scene of O'Grady's previous winner, Staying Article last November. No doubt today the master of Killeens will have been on good terms with himself as he watched Geraghty in the Joe Higgins silks, travel stylishly aboard the now nine-year-old Galileo gelding.

The 7/1 shot went on from before the last on his way to a one and a half length success from Fahamore

O'Grady remarked afterwards: "I'd like to thank the owner for being so patient. He had leg trouble at least twice and Gerrardstown House Stud (owner Joe Higgins' stud) and my own lads got him back.

"He'll go for a similar race, maybe in Punchestown.

"The tide has been out but a lot of mine have run quite well without winning." (TW & EM)
