The opening Style Evening At Tramore Races Maiden at Tramore today was a race marred by two nasty in-running incidents, in a race won by the David Wachman trained Hurricane Volta
Six to five favourite Columbanus was the first horse to slip-up, having appeared to clip heels after just a furlong. Both the 'jolly' and his rider Chris Hayes emerged unscathed.
However shortly after Our Pearl had surrendered her lead under two furlongs out, Karen Kenny's mount itself appeared to clip heels with Hurricane Volta, which had moved on to the running rail rounding that final turn.
Kenny and her mount took a heavy fall and at time of writing, an air ambulance has been called, with initial reports suggesting the rider is semi-conscious (see later story).
In the conclusion to the race, Hurricane Volta, under Wayne Lordan eventually battled well to beat Bold Faith by half a length.
Wachman wasn't present but Lordan later stated "he (Hurricane Volta) made the running the last day and just did a little bit much for me but got a lead today and was much better and battled well.
“He got a little idle when he got there but he deserved to win that.”
