A sweeping run round the outside enabled Alf Wright to grab the lead coming to the second last in Kilbeggan’s two mile handicap hurdle and he galloped away to score at 4/1.

The 3/1 favourite Luimneach Abu tried to go after the leader but couldn’t close the gap and went down by nine and a half lengths. Treacy Hotels Boy took third at 10/1.

Adam O’Neill did the steering and made the decisive move on board the winner and he reported: “He loved the track and the ground and he was always travelling in my hands.”

Alf Wright was trained to success by Eoin Doyle who wasn’t present at the track. There was a major on course gamble on the eight-year-old gelding from 13/2 to 4/1 on the off. This was Alf Wright’s fifth career victory and he also had a win in a point-to-point back in November 2011.
