Donnacha O’Brien recorded his first winner not trained by his father Aidan as he guided Misty Lane to a convincing win in the Dundalk Stadium Apprentice Handicap.

The Reggie Roberts trained six-year-old daughter of Ad Valorem was recording her fourth career success here and her third at Dundalk.

She won over the course and distance in January and won again at Gowran in June.

She disappointed last time out at Galway when finishing last of sixteen behind Surreal and she was sent off at 12/1 this evening.

Settled in second she hit the front approaching the straight and was ridden from the two furlong pole, keeping on well under pressure to score by three lengths. Beat The Ballot was sent off the 5/1 favourite (from 10’s this morning and from 6’s on-course) and he finished second under Philip Donovan for Tracey Collins, while Red Laser was a further half a length back in third under Sean Corby for Mick Halford at 11/1.

Reggie Roberts said afterwards: "She did it very well and I'm very pleased with that. She wasn't right in Galway but is back right again now and I thought that was one of her best runs."
