Bonnie records second Festival win

Bonnie Acclamation became the first horse to score twice at this year's Listowel Festival when justifying odds of 5/6 under a 5lb penalty in the opening John & Terry Moriarty Memorial Handicap.

Danny Grant, also aboard when the gelding routed his riavls over the same extended six furlongs here on Monday, had to work a bit harder this time to record a two length victory over Mountain Mama (7/1).

Grant got the winner away quickly from his wide draw (12) in a race where very few got involved. The conditions appear very testing, with further showers today making it even tougher than earlier in the week. If Paradise was one of the few to try and make a race of it with the hot favourite but he weakened in the final furlong as Style Majic (50/1) stayed on out of the pack for third, a further length and three quarters back.

However If Paradise's rider Mark Enright was hit with a two day ban by the stewards for excessive use of the whip.

Winning trainer Pat Flynn said, “He didn't win like a horse that had 16lb in hand (referring to the handicapper's reaction to Monday's win). We'll freshen him up now and probably up him in class, possibly at Dundalk. He's a lovely progressive horse, and should be better next year. Danny really likes him.”
