Bosman Rule was sent into an early lead by Patrick Mullins and he kept up the gallop to take the two mile three bumper in Cork.

If anything he increased the gap back to Thomas Ledger (20/1) in the final furlong as he scored by two and three quarter lengths. His backers were paid out at 9/4.

The other 9/4 joint favourite, Young Dillon took third on debut, a further four and a quarter lengths back. Liss Ui Riain appeared ready to deliver her challenge when she worked her way through to fourth from the pack, but that was as good as it got for the mare.

“I think that’s the first time we’ve run a horse with cheekpieces. He worked the other day and I thought he needed a pair. He’s a real good ground horse and he’s so big we’ve been afraid to run him on it. In fairness I don’t think he’ll need cheekpieces when he goes chasing.”

Bosman Rule’s record now reads one win and four runner-up spots in six bumpers.
