Bringerofthedawn ran out a facile winner of the fourth at Ballinrobe, the Costello & McDermott Maiden Hurdle, scoring under Robbie Colgan for David Broad and his father Albert (owner).

Successful in a point-to-point at Necarne last May, the seven-year-old son of Kutub ran a cracker on his last start at Fairyhouse, finishing just two and a quarter lengths second to Candlestick.

Settled in second today he improved to dispute the lead from the third last, hitting the front and going on from the next.

He extended his advantage on the approach to the straight and came home twenty-two lengths in front. Duke Cass (7/1) kept on to take second under Donagh Meyler for Karl Thorton, while the even money favourite Blessed King (Bryan Cooper for Gordon Elliott) could only manage a disappointing fourth after he attempted to make all.

David Broad said afterwards: "He won a point-to-point and we've always thought a fair bit of him. He is probably a real chaser, he jumps hurdles big.

"He will go chasing during the summer now and we are looking forward to that."

F.Birrane, trainer of City Saint John reported to the Clerk of Scales that his charge never travelled on today's going.
