Preview CURRAGH 13th Sep

The Curragh's seven-race card is a particularly strong fixture, kicking off at 2.05 and spearheaded by the Group One Irish Field St. Leger.

History can be made by Aidan O'Brien, who bids to become the first trainer since 1935 to win all five Irish Classics in a single season and the all-conquering Ballydoyle team have every chance of achieving the feat with Septimus.

Since finishing down the field in the 2006 Derby at Epsom, the son of Sadler's Wells has tasted defeat only once in five starts, all at Group level.

Despite his lack of a previous top-class triumph, Septimus has looked every inch a star in the making and he gets the chance to take up the staying baton from stablemate Yeats, who landed a first Irish St Leger for O'Brien twelve months ago.

Yeats has been declared to line up alongside his younger stable companion, but is only on stand-by should Seamie Heffernan's mount not make the race.

Yellowstone is an interesting rival in opposition having once been in the care of O'Brien, but his recent form leaves him significantly short of the required mark, so the one capable of spoiling the party might be John Oxx's Hasanka, an unexposed filly who cruised through the testing ground when landing a Listed event over course and distance last month.

The Group Two Irish National Stud Blandford Stakes provides excellent support prior to the main event.

Jalmira and Navajo Moon are both solid performers but they may need to produce something extra to deny Katiyra an opening Pattern-race win.

John Oxx's filly finished third in the Oaks at Epsom and fifth in the equivalent at the Curragh, and duly opened her account for the season with a comanding display in Listed company at Gowran last month.

Kevin Prendergast's Beach Bunny is another promising type on an upward curve and she'll ensure Katiyra doesn't have it easy.

Snaefell is likely to relish the return to six furlongs in the Group 3 St Jovite Renaissance Stakes and a repeat of his Phoenix Sprint form, when the reopposing Rock Moss could manage only fourth,
