Caim Hill (10s this morning into 11/2) put it all together at an opportune time in the chasing sphere as he landed the Gigginstown House Midlands National Handicap Chase at Kilbeggan under Brian O'Connell.
Pace-setters Liberty Counsel and Prince Of Milan were running on empty from the second last (actually the last fence here as the normal concluding obstacle was bypassed due to low-lying sun) and on the approach to the straight Caim Hill (declared also for the thetote Galway Plate Trial H'cap S'chase at Tipperary on Sunday) took over and soon asserted.
At the post the winning nine-year-old son of Deploy had six and a half lengths to spare over the smooth-travelling Osana with the two big-name reserves that got in, Supreme Doc and Victrix Gale having to settle for third and fourth.
Philip Fenton trains Caim Hill, a prolific winner now in all codes for M J Dempsey and he said: "He took a heavy fall a while back and completely lost his way.
"We reverted to the flat and we were schooling him in between.
"He gradually started to warm to it and it paid off today.
"He got a positive ride and after the first four or five he was gradually warming to it. He just went left at a couple.
"He's a good staying type and we had fantastic dreams with him at the start so it's great to win a good pot with him.
"He could now go to Galway for the amateur handicap on the Monday and the Blazers later in the week." (GC & EM)
