With conditions more suited to ducks than horses perhaps it was appropriate that Wayne Lordan was able to navigate a successful way home aboard Three Sea Captains in the valuable Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes.

The 7/4 favourite was drawn near the outer in stall 12, and Lordan plotted his way up the straight towards the stands' side as chief market rival Thunder Mountain attempted to set sail for home against the far rail.

However it developed into a real battle in the final furlong between the David Wachman-trained favourite, one of the more expensive purchases in the line-up at €30,000, and Tipping Over (6/1) – trained in Newmarket by Hugo Palmer.

A real head-bobbing finish ensued and Lordan's mount just got the verdict in this €125,000 event by a short-head, as the pair drew four and a quarter lengths clear of The Ticket Man (16/1) in third.

Wachman said, “It was tough work for him but he deserved it. He's a good horse. We were drawn wide so that's where we raced.

“He's entered up in plenty of good races but I'm not sure where he'll go next.”
