Trainer Joe Murray and owner Lisa Sheridan are getting married next Saturday, so the win of their Captain Midnight under Keith Moriarty in the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap at Dundalk was timely.
Riding his third winner, 10Ib claimer Moriarty was entrusted with the spin on Captain Midnight as he began for the County Meath yard of Murray.
Captain Midnight certainly didn't go un-backed at 8/1 and after travelling well tracking the leaders he came out on top by three parts of a length after getting to the front a furlong and a half out.
"We were looking earlier in the year for a horse like him for Dundalk for the winter and claimed him for €5,000 at Laytown," explained Murray.
"He had some reasonable enough runs in good races and had dropped down the handicap. We thought he'd get in to 47-65 handicaps and with a bit of luck would run a few nice races so it's a serious bonus to win here.
"There is a race next week but I'll try and keep him fresh and go from there. He's a happy little horse at home."
Edward Lynam, trainer of Doc Holliday reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was lame in front post race
D.M. Grant, rider of Dutch Party (GB), trained by Jane M. Foley, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount missed the break and was reluctant to race. He added that she may have been showing signs of being in season .
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Dutch Party (GB), trained by Jane M. Foley, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be clinically normal post race.
P.B. Beggy, rider of Our Man Phil trained by John C. McConnell, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung badly left in the home straight.
