Carlos on the way back

The Paul Nolan trained Carloswayback gained an overdue second career success in the opening €49 Punchestown Hospitality Beginners Chase at Punchestown today.

Ridden by Robbie Power, the son of Bob Back moved clear of Gates Of Rome (not helped by his jumping) from the final fence to record a comfortable win.

Afterwards Nolan said “we thought Carloswayback was a good horse over hurdles but his form got progressively worse and his later runs were terrible.

“He got a fall in a graded hurdle which looked a simple at the time but didn’t turn out to be simple.

However, we were happy with him at Down Royal on his first run back and ran a cracker at Navan when he looked a winner but just tied up in the last 100 yards.

“That form has worked out well and he seems a very good jumper. He’ll could go handicapping now but we could also look at a few novice chases because the ‘big guns’ will be at Cheltenham and we’ll look at races here instead.”
