Carnbridge battles back to score

Carnbridge proved a game winner of the Kilkenny Handicap Hurdle to score for local Gowran trainer Dick Donohoe.

Sean Flanagan 's mount had cut out the running but was headed going to the second last.

He kept galloping, however, and pegged back Take It Easee in the closing stages to score by a head.

"It's nice to get a winner here. In fairness to him he's been consistent," said Donohoe, who trains about a mile-and-a-half from the track.

"It looked like he was going to be a good second going to the last but he rallied well.

"Sean gave him a great ride and really asked him at the last. He winged it and that was the winning of the race.

"We'll run him again soon. He has been running regularly and licking his feed pot. He might turn out again towards the end of next week but today was his Derby."
