Carroll down to 3lb as Space scores

Space Race ran out a cosy winner of the concluding Crowne Plaza Handicap at Dundalk as apprentice sensation Gary Carroll reduced his claim to 3lb.

The James Leavy-trained son of Singspiel hit the front a furlong out and went on to record a two-and-a-half length win over Inis Ceithleann

"He's a bit of a frustrating type. We thought he would be a real good bumper horse but he probably didn't stay," said Leavy.

"We couldn't find an opportunity for him during the summer as it was so soft. That's my first winner for Gerry Byrne, who is a very good owner."
