Codd in Command

Trainer Willie Codd has his horses in fine form at present and his Dawn Commander landed the Casey Concrete Blocks Maiden Hurdle at his local track, Wexford, today.

Ridden by Paul Townend, the son of Mamool got the better of Railway Vic from the last for a three parts of a length win.

Codd later stated “I’m delighted with him. I knew he would improve from his point to point win and we were toying between running him in this race and a bumper with him.

“He is in the Brightwells Sales in November and if he isn’t sold there, we’ll put him away until next summer as I won’t run him on heavy ground. Paul (Townend) was delighted with him but said he jumped a bit novicey but that can be expected coming straight from a point to point.

“His owner William Drew is from Drogheda and has a few horses with me.”

Dawn Commander had previously won a point to point at Tinahely on October 9, when ridden by the trainer’s brother Jamie Codd who went ‘through the card’ with six winners on that day.
