Cognomen sprang a 20/1 shock in the 1m6f handicap at Ballinrobe when making a winning return to the level.

Val O'Brien's charge had produced a couple of decent efforts over hurdles recently but was unfancied in the market here.

Leigh Roche produced his charge to head long-time leader Carlowsantana at the two pole and he stuck on well down the straight. Auenschutze (33/1) stayed on late to take the runner-up spot with ever looking like pegging back the two-and-a-quarter-length winner.

It was another two-and-a-half lengths to Daytime Dreamer meaning trainer James Lambe sent out both placed horses.

Cognomen was scoring off 47 today having been rated 59 when last running on the Flat at Sligo in August 2010.

"He did it well. He's fit from hurdling, stays well and goes on that ground," said Val O'Brien.

"Leigh is tough and kept him going."
