Connell calls the tune on Marlay Park

Amateur rider Barry Connell partnered his own Marlay Park to win the concluding Templemore Bumper at Thurles today, for trainer Mags Mullins.

The son of Shernazar tracked the leaders before moving through to lead two furlongs out, staying on well for an easy 18 lenghts win over Now Wich One

Mullins later reported "Marlay Park is a lovely little horse and I'm delighted to have trained my first winner for Barry (Connell)."

He added "Barry is great for the game and, although the horse jumps very well, I will leave it to Barry to see whether he goes hurdling or for a winners' bumper next."

Connell's success was the fourth of the season and 26th career win for the rider.
