Consort delights Palussiere

Deputy Consort holds a special place in the heart of trainer Matthieu Palussiere, and the eight-year-old gelding provided him with a first winner over fences when taking division one of the Poolcourt Ltd Beginners Chase.

Eddie Power sent the 9/2 chance to the front approaching the last, and he kept on well on the run-in to beat the always prominent outsider I Am Great (33/1) by eight lengths. Carro Lad (16/1) was third.

Palussiere said, “This horse means a lot to me as he was my first winner (on the Flat at Limerick in April 2008). He's so clever and minds himself. Things didn't go right a few times for him but everything went right today and Eddie gave him a great ride. He did it well and I'm thrilled with him. He's owned by my wife Liz, and will go next for either a handicap chase or a hurdle.”
