Jockey Wayne Lordan showed remarkable patience and perfect timing to win the opening Kells Maiden at Navan today on the David Wachman trained Way Of Light (2/1f).

The daughter of Dylan Thomas was fourth with a furlong to race but quickened up well in the closing stages to edge past Falcao close home.

Lordan later revealed "I didn't want to get there too early as she doesn't do a whole lot in front. The last day she didn't get home, and the trip was perfect today.

Lordan substituted for injured Ryan Moore to win two Group 1s on Wachman's Legatissimo this year and, along with the trainer, will be buoyed by the recent announcement that that star filly will return to action in 2016.
