Corbett off the mark - again

Eamonn Corbett got his first winner on the board when guiding Fearchar to a hard fought success in the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle at Cork. It wasn't the first time the 20-year-old crossed the line in front though.

He rode Kings Light 'a winner' at Wexford on St Patrick's Day but that subsequently ill-fated gelding lost that win afterwards on a technicality.

The handicapper could be proud of his efforts in this two mile three furlong event as all runners approached the turn in with some sort of chance but it was Fearchar, a four-year-old racing for Galway Hurdle hero, Paul Flynn, that found the most when required, going on to beat the favourite, Asymmetrical by a length.

Corbett lives in Athlone and he works with Paul Flynn.

Meanwhile Fearchar was equipped with cheek-pieces for the first time over flights and he is by Governor Brown, sire of Eric McNamara's Grade 2 winner, Little Green.
