Cracker off the mark in opener

Mr Cracker justified his short price in the opening maiden hurdle at Navan with a cosy victory.

Davy Russell 's mount cut out the running and always looked in command down the straight.

The even-money favourite was ridden out before the last to secure a three-and-a-half length victory over Ad Idem

"He's a nice horse and will be better on better ground," said winning trainer Michael Hourigan.

"Davy said he had a leg in every parish and was snapping at his jumps. He might be a nice horse some day.

"I would say chasing will be his game. He's a horse to look forward to. He promised a lot and is only starting to deliver now. He had a few hiccups on the way.

"He was a free horse but he's not like that anymore. He's only five and is learning a lot."
