Review DUNDALK 15th Sep

Johnny Murtagh was on fire at Dundalk, kicking off a four-timer when Pursuit Of Glory outclassed her rivals in the Ardee Fillies Maiden.

Sent off the red-hot 4-7 market leader on the back of a debut fourth here, the daughter of Coronation Stakes winner Sophisticat tracked the leaders in the six-furlong contest and was asked to go about her business straightening up.

She took up the running approaching the furlong pole and careered away without the jockey having to resort to the whip, handing out a six-length beating to Island Breeze

Murtagh wasted no time in adding to his tally when Achak (5-2 joint-favourite) claimed the Annagassan (C&G) Maiden in the shadows of the post.

His market rival Chimpunk took up the running inside the last 200 yards, with Helioza matching strides, and the pair looked to have it between them.

However, Murtagh was winding Achak up for a final assault and Ger Lyons' gelding stuck his neck out to beat the former by a short-head, although he did have to survive a stewards' inquiry.

Murtagh notched up his treble when Turk ran out a convincing winner of the Drogheda Handicap.

Ballydoyle's retained rider was sporting the colours of Lynne Lyons on the 9-2 shot and did an excellent job to get his mount across into a mid-field position from an awkward draw.

He managed to save ground rounding the home turn and once in the clear, stormed away from his opponents to beat Cihangir by two lengths.

Murtagh missed out on four in a row when Aidan O'Brien's Grand Admiral finished unplaced in the Dundalk Nursery after being hampered in the straight.

Ironically the the mile event went the way of Kinetic Quest (10-1) to give Lyons a treble of his own, this time ridden by Emmet McNamara.

But Murtagh was soon back in tandem with Lyons and the pair were left to celebrate a great night's work when Ashka (9-4) recorded an easy success in the Blackrock Maiden.
