John The Diva flew home on the run-in to get up in the last strides and snatch victory in the Holycross Maiden Hurdle at Thurles.

The reserve Gentle Anna looked set for shock victory when hitting the front before the last flight in the 'unplaced' event.

Mark Cahill 's charge, who had been driven along in fifth after the second last by Niall Moore, found his feet late on as he got up close home for a head victory.

The 11/2 winner had been fourth in handicap company at Punchestown on his most recent start.

"He had a few nice runs in point to points two years ago but got a little bit of trouble so we left him off. He has improved with every run since and was tough today. It didn't look likely but he stayed at it well,” said Cahill.

"I suppose we'll keep going while the ground is like this and he'll definitely go over fences next year. He is a chaser in the making.

"There are six or seven lads - all from Tipperary, involved including my brother Paul."
