Torphichen took the feature race at Listowel this afternoon, the Dawn Milk Handicap Chase, providing his owner JP McManus and his rider Mark Walsh with doubles (the duo combined to score with Galianna in the fourth).

With the defection of likely favourite Kalellshan this morning, the winner was sent off the 2/1 'jolly' for trainer Edward O’Grady.

Approaching the straight it was between the winner and Ordinary Man but that fellow crashed out at the second last, when just headed, leaving Torphichen come home an easy twenty-six length winner from Mossey Joe in second at 6/1.

O'Grady said afterwards: "It is nice to have him back and to see him win again. I don’t have any plans for him. I’m not sure if he was a bit lucky to win the way things worked out but things certainly fell nicely from him today."

The versatile chestnut gelding was recording his ninth career victory, his fourth over fences adding to his three over hurdles and his two on the level.
