Robbie Downey partnered his second winner when scoring on Doc Holliday in the Crowne Plaza Apprentice Handicap at Dundalk.

The winning rider reported his mount had “jumped keenly” and he soon hit the front in the mile contest.

Downey kept him going well in the closing stages to prevail in a bunch finish to the 55-70 contest.

He got home by a short-head from fellow 6/1 shot Midfield General who ran on well in the closing stages.

5/1 favourite Salvado (from 6/1) also finished on the outside to take third, a length back.

Downey had partnered his first winner, also for boss Eddie Lynam, when Atticus Finch had won at the track back in February.

The Stewards were of the opinion that Ronan Whelan, on board the runner-up, had caused interference by riding carelessly (rule 214) and therefore suspended him for one race day.
