Baily Dusk justified favouritism in the www.thurlesraces.ie handicap chase, as he ran out a fortuitous winner, scoring under Bryan Cooper for Mouse Morris.

The seven-year-old son of Dushyantor sprang a 25/1 surprise by winning at handicap chase at Clonmel late last month, but he showed that was no fluke by finishing second on his next two starts.

Having opened at 5/2 with Paddy Power this morning, he went from 2/1 to clear 13/8 favouritism on-course.

He took up the running after the first, and he didn’t see another rival until the approach to the second last, as The Blarney Rose (11/2 second favourite) came with her challenge under Brendan Crowley for Eugene O’Sullivan.

The Blarney Rose had edged slightly ahead on the run to the last, but she crashed out there after being bumped by the winner, and badly hampered Prosperity Square (third at the time) who then unseated.

This left Baily Dusk with a clear lead, and he stayed on well on the run-in to score by eight lengths. Tico kept on to take second under Mikey Fogarty for Willie Codd at 14/1, while In The Well was a further half a length back in third under Adrian Heskin for Enda Bolger at 16/1.

Mouse Morris said afterwards: "He was lucky to win today. He has had three wind operations and we might give him a break now."

It was later reported that Ben Dalton, who was unseated at the last from Prosperity Square, suffered a suspected fracture to his right radius, while also fracturing his left AC joint.
