Erkindale Lady gained a maiden win, at the 18th attempt, at Fairyhouse today when landing the Sponsorship At Fairyhouse Handicap Chase for trainer Michelle Gannon and jockey J.J. Slevin.

The eight year old daughter of Scorpion had managed two third placings from her previous 17 starts but today seemed to relish the step up to 2m7f when finishing well to edge past Dinnie’s Vinnie in the last stride, for a head win.

Gannon later commented “we’ve had a lot of luck here at Fairyhouse - I rode her mother (Erkindale Miss) to win here ten years ago, and her half-sister Missyspet won twice here.

“JJ (Slevin) always kept saying to me she wants further, and she’s tough out and all the family are very tough and honest.”

“Bill Kyne has leased her in partnership with me - he’s not too well at the moment so I’m delighted for him.”
