Favourite Fire wins Anglesey Stakes

The 11/4 favourite Fire Lily for David Wachman and Wayne Lordan ran out a comfortable winner of the Group 3, Jebel Ali Stables & Racecourse Anglesey Stakes.

One of the three fillies in the seven strong field, the daughter of Dansli, was last seen when finishing a good fourth in the Group 2, Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.

On her fourth career start and her first over six furlongs, the winner chased the leaders early on and was fourth three furlongs out. She was then ridden to lead a furlong from home and kept on well to score by two and a half lengths.

Having opened as short as 15/8 with some bookies this morning the winner drifted out to 11/4 at the off, while the runner-up After was backed from 6/1 this morning into 3/1 second favourite.

Aidan O'Brien saddled second, third and fourth, with the aforementioned After under Ryan Moore in the runner-up spot, Boris Grigoriev a half a length back in third at 12/1, and Ishvana at 10/1 a further length and three parts back in fourth.

Winning trainer David Wachman said afterwards: "She has always shown that she is pretty smart. She ran well in the Queen Mary last time out. She was outpaced there in the middle of the race before flying home at the finish.

"The step up in trip was no harm to her and she is versatile ground wise, as she doesn't mind fast or slow.

"She holds entries in all the big 2yo races and she will go for one of them next."

The winner received a quote of 33/1 with both Ladbrokes and Boylesports for next year's English 1,000 Guineas.
