The Stewards interviewed Mr David Fehily, rider of Matchbook placed second, concerning the use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider, who stated that it was only his fourth ride on the track and his first time in contention of winning and he got carried away with excitement. Having viewed the video of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr David Fehily had used his whip improperly and with excessive frequency, and taking his inexperience into account, suspended him for 7 racedays and advised him to attend RACE for 1 days tuition on the correct use of the whip.
