Those who fancy Pique Sous for the Weatherbys Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival next Wednesday got a boost when Five Point Plan justified favouritism in the Ardfinnan INH Flat Race.

Philip Fenton’s charge, fourth to the well-regarded Willie Mullins-trained gelding on his debut at Leopardstown last month, had little difficulty here as the well-supported evens favourite.

Kevin Power kept his mount wide throughout in search of better ground, and just pushed him out in the final furlong to beat An Dearthair Og (2/1) by four and a half lengths.

I’m So Cool was withdrawn during the afternoon on veterinary advice, and the field was further reduced to just four soon after the start when the unruly Over Presented unseated his rider.

Fenton said, “The field got smaller and smaller and you’d have to fancy him on his Leopardstown run.

“He should go on better ground and his next run will probably be at the Curragh in the Rockview Bumper. He’s not going on his summer holidays for a while yet.”
