The Francis Flood-trained Fighting Days lived up to his name with a battling victory in the concluding two-mile handicap hurdle at Punchestown.

The 16/1 shot had proved a disappointment last time out at Cork but bounced back to form with a game effort.

Andrew Lynch 's front-running mount looked to have his rivals cooked turning for home but The Pounds stuck on to challenge in the run-in.

That rival may just have edged ahead for a stride but Fighting Days rallied to record a neck victory.

The ground was too gluey the last day. He battled well but probably got a bit of a freebie in front and saved a bit everywhere,” said Fran Flood afterwards.
